Dedicate time to practice self-compassion; it is through consistent effort that we nurture our inner strength.
Congratulations! You Are Awesome!
Now that you have reviewed the introduction to MindfulLiving™ Module 7: Self-Compassion Mastery, the real work begins! Focus your mind and experience a difference.
Before you begin Chapter 2, it’s time to focus, concentrate, and get started. We discuss how important it is to practice!

The Importance of Practice
Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to change by forming new neural pathways. For the brain to rewire itself, a sustained practice that challenges it to think in new ways is required.
We often view gaining new skills as a long shot, like winning the lottery:
- “It’d be nice…”
- “Think of all I could do!”
- “But the odds are so small… I’ll pass.”
Unlike the lottery, gaining new skills doesn’t require luck; all it takes is effort and effective learning techniques.
10 Tips for Effective Learning
- Ditch Your Learning Style: Whether you think you’re a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner, your learning style has little impact on your actual ability to learn. Focus on what you’re trying to learn. For instance, to learn a new language, engage with various resources, such as TV shows and conversations with native speakers.
- Make It Meaningful: Finding meaning in your learning is crucial. Experts in a field often remember details better than amateurs because they see the strategy behind them. To help retain information, connect what you learn with your life experiences.
- Learn by Doing: We learn best through practice. Instead of focusing solely on theory, apply what you learn. Build habits around new skills and reward yourself for progress.
- Study the Greats, Then Practice: Observe experts in your field to develop your style. Compare your work to theirs and identify areas for improvement through continuous practice.
- Teach What You Learn: Teaching others helps solidify your understanding. Break down the material into manageable pieces and explain it to friends or colleagues, or even present it to a team at work.
- Focus on Difficult Areas: To excel at Self-Compassion, practice areas where you struggle. Deliberate practice—focusing on weaknesses—is critical. Concentration during practice enhances effectiveness.
- Take Frequent Breaks: The brain needs both focused and diffused modes for effective learning. After intense study, allow your mind to relax and connect ideas. Use techniques like the Pomodoro Technique (25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break) to maintain mental energy.
- Test Yourself: Regular testing enhances retention more than re-reading notes. It shows how well you can use what you’ve learned, which is the ultimate goal of learning.
- Find a Mentor: A mentor can expedite your learning by offering a valuable perspective and experience. When seeking a mentor, please describe what you can offer them in return for their guidance.
- Be Curious: Curiosity fuels learning. Ask questions, explore various sources, and engage critically with theories. Experiment with the knowledge to discover surprising insights.
