We briefly touched on “Clutter” last week. This is the perfect time to CLEAR THE CLUTTER…Less is better than more!
What is clutter?
According to Dictionary.com, the noun “clutter” means “a disorderly heap or assemblage; litter.” As in “It’s impossible to find my keys in all this clutter.”
Now back to getting the hard facts:
I checked out various studies on clutter and hoarding. I also spoke to psychotherapists, physicians, and professional organizers to learn more about the psychological reasons for clutter and its negative effects.
Dr Jonathan Moch highly acclaimed teacher of Mindfulness has constructive ways of showing you how to “Live the Mindful Way.” In the 8 week course we are running in 2020 you will find out how to deal with these idiosyncrasies and much more.

Here’s how clutter affects your physical and mental health, relationships, career, and finances:
Clutter Harms Your Health
Increases your stress.
Clutter raises levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
Wrecks your diet
Clutter overwhelms your brain, so you’re more likely to resort to coping mechanisms such as seeking comfort foods or overeating.
Triggers respiratory issues
Cluttered homes often contain more dust, which can cause or amplify breathing problems.
Threatens your safety
Accumulating excessive amounts of items that are flammable and block doors or windows poses serious fire hazards.
Clutter Hurts Your Relationships
Jeopardises your love life
Excessive clutter causes you to overlook changes that need to be made to strengthen your relationship. It can also lead to higher rates of divorce.
Upsets your kids
Children living in a severely cluttered environment are less happy, have greater trouble making friends, and are more likely to feel embarrassed about their home’s condition.
Isolates you
Most people who have clutter are embarrassed about their homes and prefer not to invite friends over.
Clutter Derails Your Career
Prevents you from getting promoted
Research shows that employers are less likely to promote someone with a cluttered and messy office.
Makes you miss work
Compulsive hoarding, clutter and messy homes cause you to always be late because you can never find anything and are always mislaying things.
Decreases productivity
Clutter decreases productivity. Messy surroundings compete for your attention while distracting you from your to-do list.
Clutter Drains Your Wallet
Encourages bad spending habits
Hoarders tend to purchase items without agenda. They buy unnecessary items indiscriminately without thinking it through properly.
Keeps you in debt
You can’t pay off debt if you can’t find your bills. Bills buried under a mound of papers causes late payment causing unnecessary interest accrued.
Now… are you convinced that clutter is simply a bad habit and can be changed?
